Board Meeting - Monday 16th May 2011

The Board members are elected at the AGM (see below,) as a board and it is up to the board to allocate the different responsibilities to its members.

With Mike Aymes wanting to “fade out” in his role as treasurer, it was decided that David Wagstaff should be “The Treasurer” as the most qualified. It was decided that David Wagstaff should also continue as President but him having two roles was considered by the meeting and David himself, to be a little onerous, and we should look for a president to take on this role later in the year. This person could come from The Board’s members, perhaps when some of the newer board members have a little more experience.

Phil Tyler will continue as The Vice-President.

Annette Davis will continue as The Secretary.

Matthew Claisse will continue as Marketing Director.

Lesley Gilder will take over the HR portfolio heading up recruitment and selection.

Jeremy Gartside will continue as “The Loans Officer”.

The complaints and money laundering function will all now be operated from within the strengthened Supervisory Committee.

The new complaints officer will be Paul Howlett

Phil Tyler is the Health and Safety Officer.

ED: August 2011 Matthew Claisse has resigned subsequent to his election as councillor for Portswood.

There is now an email address for complaints direct to the complaints team.

This is “complaints@solentcreditunion.co.uk”

There is a new development group formed to push through the introduction of the Local Housing Allowance/Tennant/landlord service and the introduction of the new ABCUL prepayment Card.

The Board of Directors consists of  11 members who are elected to serve for three years. At the end of the thee years they are retired and have to be nominated and re-elected. This created 8 vacancies in all. Nominations were received for Annette Davis, David Wagstaff, Phil Tyler and Mike Aymes, Mathew Claisse, Christopher Moody, Lesley Gilder. This left one vacancy. No nominations were taken from the meeting and so there is one vacancy on the board. The Nominees were elected on block. After the AGM the Special General Meeting agreed to the change of rule 7. This makes qualification for membership, to live or work in the SO postal area.

This rule now reads:

Section B: Membership

Rule 7 - Common bond qualification for membership

7         (1)       The qualification for admission to membership of the credit union shall be

Individuals residing or having their normal place of work  within the Southampton Postal District as delineated in red on the attached map so that in consequence thereof there shall be a common bond between all the members.

The meeting agreed to the implementation of Rule 18  The Credit Union can now levy a small charge to non-active members who have less than five pounds of savings and have not been active for more than one year. Active means their being no transactions on the account, excluding dividend payments,  or being a volunteer. The charge will be of the amount of their savings and so will reduce the individuals savings to nil. Every effort will be taken to contact the member before part three of Rule 18 is carried out. The account will then be closed.
