NEW SERVICE On benefits? Can’t get a tenancy? Solent Credit Union’s new service may be able to help you
|

We may have the answer for you if you live in the SO Postal area
The Solent Credit Union Local Housing Allowance service is ready to start thanks to some very welcome help from Coastal Credit Union. Solent Credit Union, with the help of Coastal Credit Union, our neighbours from the BH postal area, is introducing a scheme where members can have their Local Housing Allowance paid to us, for us to pay the Landlord directly. The money cannot then get trapped by your bank, get lost in bill paying, spent accidentally or pilfered. Solent Credit Union will now be able to offer private landlords the facility to receive ‘ring-fenced’ Local Housing Allowance (LHA) on behalf of SCU members who are their tenants. The member/tenant’s benefits are paid directly into the tenant-member’s SCU account, and then processed through to the landlord, subject to sufficient funds being available. This ensures that such tenants avoid rent arrears, which can affect their future references, as well as maintaining a stable home address. Landlords feel secure in the knowledge that the housing benefits reach them on time, and intact. Many landlords in Bournemouth and Poole only give tenancies to people on benefits who are on this scheme.
